NaPoWriMo Day 15

NaPoWriMo Day 15! The prompt for today was to write an idea of a poem as a sort of tiny play, which can be performed dramatically— an incredibly challenging prompt! I took inspiration from the Bengali dance drama ‘Chitrangada’ by Rabindranath Tagore which depicts a story from Mahabharata about Chitrangada, a fierce warrior princess and Arjuna, the Pandava. The story revolves around Chitrangada transforming herself to win over Arjuna after being rejected for not being feminine enough. However, she realises that she is denying her own identity and thus the love itself is false. When Arjuna hears about the warrior princess from her villagers, he is highly impressed and she finally reveals her true self to him. In this monologue, Chitrangada addresses Arjuna to accept her real identity.
