NaPoWriMo Day 22

NaPoWriMo Day 22! Today’s prompt was to express something about another form of art. In this short poem, I have paid homage to the art forms of painting and dancing. This poem is also incredibly special to me as the image used today was digitally illustrated by my best friend, a brilliant artist who is also the focus of the first section. The second section is about the way I perceive dance, my other passion apart from writing.

Happy Reading!

      1. I grew up dancing ballet and for a short time in high school danced with the Nashville (TN, USA) Ballet Society. That was where I was exposed to but not invited to study Hindu dance which I found so lovely. (I wasn’t a principle dancer and only principle dancers in the company were invited.) Years later I joined a jazz company and did that until motherhood took over my time. Then later started doing tap again and did that for many years intermixed with salsa and such. I have arthritis in one ankle now and need to be careful, but you can see me tapping a beat often. My body just responds to music. How about you? What kind of dance are you involved with?

      2. That’s such an amazing dance journey!! And what a mix of fantastic styles.
I have been learning Bharatnatyam, a classical Indian dance since 14 years. I gave my professional debut ( a major feat in our field) in 2014 and have continued to dance even after that although most people usually stop.
However, the past year I’ve taken a sabbatical to focus on my studies but I’m itching to tap my feet and sway to the rhythm again!
